Interacting with the Report

View the relative progress of your school's students in the most recent year.

As the school math coordinator, you want to determine which grades need the most support based on the relative progress index.

  1. Click the Reports tab.
  2. Select Value-Added under the School Reports heading.
  3. In the filter panel, select the Relative Progress columns needed under Data to Display.
  4. In the Tests and Subjects section, clear the check box for IRI.
  5. Click the arrow to expand the ISAT filter.
  6. Clear the check boxes for all subjects except math.
  7. The relative progress data for math in the most recent year appears in the report.
Compare your most recent year of relative progress and achievement with previous years.

As an elementary school principal, you would like to determine whether a support program for fifth-grade math has produced positive relative progress and achievement results over the last two years.

  1. Click the Reports tab.
  2. Select Value-Added under the School Reports heading.
  3. In the filter panel, select the Relative Progress and Achievement columns needed under Data to Display.
  4. In the Tests and Subjects section, clear the check box for IRI.
  5. Click on the arrow next to the ISAT filter to expand it.
  6. Clear the check boxes for all subjects except math.
  7. Expand the menu for math.
  8. Expand the menus for Gain and Predictive and clear the check boxes for all grades except fifth.
  9. Under Years, select the check boxes for the two most recent years of reporting.
  10. The relative progress and achievement data appears in the report.
View achievement for one or more subjects, grades, courses, or years.

As a middle school principal, you are meeting with the math department to show their students' achievement upon exiting each grade.

  1. Click the Reports tab.
  2. Select Value-Added under the School Reports heading.
  3. In the filter panel, select the Achievement columns desired under Data to Display.
  4. In the Tests and Subjects section, clear the check box for IRI.
  5. Click on the arrow next to the ISAT filter to expand it.
  6. Deselect all subjects except math.
  7. Expand the menu for math.
  8. Expand the menus for Gain and Predictive to deselect any grade that you don't want to view.
  9. Under Years, select the check boxes for the years you want to view.
  10. The data appears in the report.
View the relative progress of a cohort of students over time.

As the math coordinator, you are documenting the results of a grant supporting your students' learning in math. Use the School Value-Added report to find the math relative progress indexes of last year's fifth-grade cohort over the past two years.

  1. Click the Reports tab.
  2. Select Value-Added under the School Reports heading.
  3. In the filter panel, select the Relative Progress columns needed under Data to Display.
  4. In the Tests and Subjects section, clear the check box for IRI.
  5. Click on the arrow next to the ISAT filter to expand the menu.
  6. Clear the check boxes for all subjects except math.
  7. Expand the menu for math.
  8. Expand the menus for Gain and Predictive and clear the check boxes for all grades except fifth.
  9. Under Years, select the check boxes for the years you want to view.
  10. The data appears in the report.
View relative progress results with specific relative progress indicators.

The principal asked for your assistance in recognizing grades in the school that exhibit high relative progress in math.

  1. Click the Reports tab.
  2. Select Value-Added under the School Reports heading.
  3. In the filter panel, select the Relative Progress Indicator check box under Data to Display.
  4. In the Tests and Subjects section, clear the check box for IRI.
  5. Click on the arrow next to the ISAT filter to expand the menu.
  6. Deselect all subjects except math.
  7. In the Relative Progress Indicator section, clear the Meets, Below, and Well Below check boxes.
  8. Under Years, select the check boxes for the years you want to view.
  9. The data appears in the report.
View relative progress and achievement for grades over multiple years.

As the school admin, you are preparing for a vertical team meeting with your middle school math teachers. At this meeting, you want to display math relative progress results and discuss the trends.

  1. Click the Reports tab.
  2. Select Value-Added under the School Reports heading.
  3. In the filter panel, select the Relative Progress and Achievement columns needed under Data to Display.
  4. In the Tests and Subjects section, clear the check box for IRI.
  5. Click on the arrow next to ISAT.
  6. Deselect all subjects except math.
  7. Under Years, select the check boxes for the years you want to view.
  8. The data appears in the report.
How to compare relative progress results between schools.

As a school principal, you want to compare your school's relative progress measures in Science to other schools in the district.

  1. Click the Reports tab.
  2. Select Value-Added under the School Reports heading. Change the currently selected School to your school if needed.
  3. In the filter panel, under Districts and Schools, click Add a Comparison. A new District and Schools… drop-down menu populates.
  4. Select one of the Schools you want to compare from the drop-down menu.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all the schools are added. You can add up to 10 schools to the comparison list.
  6. In the Test and Subjects section, deselect all subjects except Science.
  7. The relative progress data for Science in five schools appear in the report and can be compared.
